27th Annual Accent on Architecture Gala: May 26, 2016



The 27th annual Accent on Architecture Gala was held on Thursday, May 26th, 2016, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.

The 2016 Gala honored the design world’s foremost influencers. This included M. Arthur Gensler Jr., FAIA, FIIDA, RIBA, with the George M. White Award, recognizing his lifetime achievements combining architecture with community betterment. Founder of Gensler, the largest architecture firm in the world, Mr. Gensler is one of the design world’s most prominent visionaries.

The Gala also honored Robert P. Kogod, Charles E. Smith Management LLC, with the Keystone Award, for increasing the value of architecture and design in our culture. Additionally known for his work as co-Chairman and co-CEO of the Charles E. Smith Co., Mr. Kogod has reimagined underutilized spaces into ones that increase opportunities and grow communities.

In addition, the Honorable Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Mayor of Baltimore, was honored with the Joseph P. Riley Jr. Award for Leadership in Urban Design.

Attended by over 500 of the nation’s top innovators in architecture, business, and government, AAF’s flagship Gala is one of the prime opportunities to celebrate the achievements of design and cultivate lasting partnerships.

Proceeds from the Gala directly support the work of AAF and its three international design centers, which provide design leadership and sustainability programs to leaders in architecture, design, education, public policy, urban planning, and historic preservation.
