Architectural Record Announces Winners of
“Good Design is Good Business” Lifetime Achievement Awards

NEW YORK, Jan. 15, 2014—McGraw Hill Construction’s Architectural Record (http://www.ArchitecturalRecord.com), part of McGraw Hill Financial (NYSE: MHFI), today announced the firms it is honoring with the third annual “Good Design is Good Business” Lifetime Achievement Awards. The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Architecture Award is STUDIOS Architecture, whose award will be accepted by CEO and principal Todd DeGarmo, FAIA. The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Patron Award is Novartis, the Basel, Switzerland-based international pharmaceutical, research and development company whose award will be accepted by Patrick Lobdell, Director of Design, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. The “Good Design is Good Business” Lifetime Achievement Awards honor the winning firms’ commitment to design excellence as a motivator for successful business enterprise.

STUDIOS Architecture has designed innovative offices for such iconic clients as Bloomberg, Google, and Dow Jones, while Novartis has commissioned significant buildings for its campuses worldwide from more than 15 renowned firms—including Gehry Partners and Herzog & DeMeuron—in Basel to Fumihiko Maki, Weiss/Manfredi, and Rafael VInoly in Hanover, New Jersey, to Toshiko Mori and Maya Lin in Cambridge, Massachusetts. “The design leadership exhibited by our winners has been exceptional,” says Cathleen McGuigan, editor-in-chief, Architectural Record. “We honor them for the development of solutions that will make their firms more relevant and successful in a global culture that increasingly demands environmental and social responsibility. They make quality of life, sustainability, and design excellence top priorities.”

STUDIOS Architecture and Novartis were honored at the 2014 Accent on Architecture Gala on April 24, 2014, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. The annual gala, presented by the American Architectural Foundation (AAF), celebrates leadership in architecture and design.
