Architectural Record to Present 2013 Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Awards at AAF’s 24th Annual Accent on Architecture Gala

Architectural Record will present its 2013 Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Awards at AAF’s 2013 Accent on Architecture Gala. We look forward to joining our partners at Record in celebrating the design leadership of this year’s honorees, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Hines.

NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2012 — McGraw-Hill Construction’s Architectural Record, part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP),  and the founder of the “Good Design is Good Business” Awards more than fifteen years ago, today announced the firms honored with the company’s second annual “Good Design is Good Business” Lifetime Achievement Awards.  The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Architecture Award is Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, whose award will be accepted by the firm’s Founder, Peter Q. Bohlin, FAIA.  The winner of the Lifetime Achievement Patron Award is Hines, whose award will be accepted by the firm’s Founder & Chairman, Gerald D. Hines.  The award honors the winning firms’ commitment to design excellence as a motivator for successful business enterprise.

According to Cathleen McGuigan, editor-in-chief, Architectural Record and editorial director, GreenSource, “The design leadership exhibited by our winners has been exceptional – both by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, as architects for such iconic clients as Apple, Uniqlo, and Pixar, and by Hines, as real estate developers who have commissioned significant buildings from Johnson and Burgee’s Pennzoil in Houston to Foster + Partners’ City Place in Washington, D.C.  We honor them for developing solutions that will make their companies more relevant and successful in a global culture that increasingly demands environmental stewardship and social responsibility.  They truly do prioritize quality of life and sustainability — a positive leap toward an improved business ethic that benefits everyone.”

Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Hines will be honored at the 2013 Accent on Architecture Gala on March 22, 2013, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC.  The annual gala, presented by the American Architectural Foundation (AAF), celebrates leadership in architecture and design.

Last year’s “Good Design is Good Business” Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), the winner of the “Good Design is Good Business” Lifetime Achievement Award, and Haworth, Inc. the winner of the “Good Design is Good Business”  Lifetime Achievement Patron Award.

Architectural Record was also first to establish the “Good Design is Good Business” China Awards, the most recent held earlier this year.
